Nowadays, almost every website appears to greet you with a Chatbot because developments in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Deep Learning, ranging from simple programs with limited conversational capabilities to intelligent, conversational-capable bots.

You’ve probably already spoken to a robot without even realising it. You may have even come across the word “chatbot” in the press. But what exactly is a chatbot? How do chatbots function, and can you talk to them? I’ll help you understand what AI is and whether there is an AI app that you can talk to.

What Is a Chatbot and How Do They Work?

A chatbot is essentially a robot chat that mimics human discussions through voice instructions, text chats, etc. It’s a virtual discussion in which one of the participants is an online talking robot.

The artificial intelligence function in talking robots has been utilised in various businesses to give information or execute activities such as weather forecasting, flight reservations, and product purchases.

Machine learning and natural language processing are components of a chatbot’s artificial intelligence (NLP). Machine learning can be used in various domains to develop chatbot algorithms, whereas NLP can recognise conversational cadences and replicate human communication.

The chatbot has been programmed to convert the input data into the appropriate output value. When provided with this data, it analyses and creates the context to point to the relevant facts to respond to spoken or written instructions.

When it comes to AI deep learning, the machine discovers new patterns in data without any prior knowledge or training, then extracts and stores the pattern.

Communicating with Conversational AI

Virtual assistants are the most common examples of conversationally proficient AI. Siri, Alexa, Cortana, and Google Assistant have gone from our phones to our living rooms. Their ability to understand and handle natural language queries has grown steadily.

As the Internet of Things (IoT) becomes more popular, these bots may emerge into the medium through which we communicate with our interconnected environment – the intermediary between man and machine.

Chatbots That Can Converse

Chatbots are currently available via various channels, including the web, within apps, and on messaging platforms. I have outlined below some of the chatbots you can talk to:

  1. Endurance – Dementia patients can no longer hold meaningful conversations. However many persons with dementia retain much of their conversational talents as their illness develops. Endurance created this companion chatbot for this reason.
  2. Casper – Casper’s Insomnobot 3000 is a conversational agent designed to provide insomniacs company while the rest of the world sleeps.
  3. Marvel – Marvel’s chatbot allows comic-book geeks to talk to various Marvel characters.
  4. MedWhat – This medical chatbot is designed to make medical diagnosis faster, easier, and more transparent for both patients and professionals – think of it as a talking, intelligent version of WebMD.
  5. Roof Ai – Roof is a chatbot that assists real estate marketers in automating the interaction with potential leads through social media.
